Boulder is home to numerous museums, festivals, concerts and other events each year. No matter what time of year it might be when you are looking for something interesting to do, there’s always a variety of events to choose from in Boulder.
Every January, Boulder hosts an annual celebration honoring Austrian composer Gustav Mahler called the Colorado MahlerFest. The Boulder International Film Festival is held each February by the Colorado Film Society, a nonprofit organization founded by local filmmakers Kathy and Robin Beeck. The festival aims to provide the Denver/Boulder metro area with an early look at the best new films in international cinema. BIFF has hosted over 150 filmmakers from around the world since 2005.
Each summer brings the Colorado Music Festival, a six-week classical music festival with professional musicians from around the world. This event is held at the historic Chautauqua Auditorium at the base of the Flatirons. Boulder’s Dinner Theatre brings Broadway to the mountains all year long, and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival brings a variety of the famous bard’s most-loved plays to the stage each year.
Boulder is also home to a variety of music, including the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Ars Nova Singers, the Boulder Chorale, and others.
The art scene thrives in the Boulder area with the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, the Boulder Arts & Crafts Cooperative, which is one of the oldest co-ops in the United States, and the Dairy Center for the Arts.
Don't miss a trip to the Leanin' Tree Museum and Sculpture Garden of Western Art. This is a free museum exhibiting 250 paintings and 150 bronze sculptures by 100 artists. Enjoy a walk in their sculpture garden and view 25 life-size and monumental bronze sculptures.
The Downtown ArtFair brings more than 150 artists from around the world to Boulder each year. The fair was founded more than 30 years ago and is held at the Pearl Street Mall each summer. The event draws over 90,000 people to downtown Boulder. It’s a free event that is open to the public, and offers opportunities to mix and mingle with artists. You’ll see original works of art in all kinds of media at the Boulder ArtFair, from watercolor and sculpture to metallurgy and fiber crafts. The ArtFair also features live music, refreshments, and a beautiful view of Boulder Creek.
