Boulder is a happening town with about 100,000 residents and 45,000 college students, and you can be sure there is something going on every night of the week. Boulder is home to almost 300 pubs, bars and nightclubs, many of which feature live music and DJs multiple times a week.
Whether you’re in the mood for a cheering sportsbar, live blues, or a quiet pub, Boulder has it all and everything in between. The Sink is the bar closest to the CU- Boulder campus and is usually packed with students. There are also tequila bars, numerous microbreweries, dive bars, pool halls, dance clubs, after-hours clubs – just about any type of bar you could ask for.
Absinthe House in Boulder is a night club of the European flavor, with house dance music, a full menu, and absinthe fountains that can be adjusted to taste. If you are looking for a classic bar check out The Catacombs with its cavernous rooms, or the West End Tavern with its upscale pub fare. Take in a little live karaoke at Nissi’s or open mic night at Folsum Street Coffee.
If you’re interested in large-scale live music, see a show at the Boulder Theatre or the Fox Theatre on the Hill. Both offer a full bar and a variety of shows to choose from. There’s also the Chautauqua Auditorium at Chautauqua Park, and the Macky Auditorium on campus.
From June through mid-August, be sure to check out Bands on the Bricks where local bands perform on the Pearl Street Mall just south of the Courthouse on Wednesday nights. And for something totally different, consider dinner, drinks and a little Broadway at Boulder’s Dinner Theatre.
If you’re in the mood for a little intellectual stimulation, there are always lectures, readings and discussions taking place at the CU-Boulder Campus. There’s so much to do in Boulder, you could stay for weeks and try something new each night.
