On July 21st, find out how decisions are made towards hurricane evacuations and the successes of modern hurricane prediction, with NCAR's Scientist Dr. Rebecca Morss.

Hurricane forecasts have improved significantly during the last few decades, but accurately predicting where and when a hurricane will make landfall remains challenging. Even more challenging is communicating the potential for high winds, flooding, and associated impacts in different regions, especially with enough warning for coastal residents to evacuate safely before landfall. In this presentation, Dr. Rebecca Morss will discuss the successes and challenges of hurricane forecasting and risk communication, including major events of the devastating 2017 hurricane season. Find out how research can help alert the public when hazardous weather threatens and how new technologies such as social media can help.

Admission is free, however seating is limited. In order to ensure a seat in the lecture hall, please obtain a free Evenbrite ticket. Please let us know if you need sign language interpretation so that we can make those accomodations.
