The FRCS crew is returing to the Third Flatiron this summer to work on the descent trail. We look to add upon the success of our previous two years and build a sustainable trail off of the backside. Our first objective is to work on the section leading up to the East Bench before the raptor closure lifts July 31st. We will then be working on putting the finishing touches of the work that we accomplished last year behind the Flatiron (registrations for those workdays to come soon).
The work will entail rock quarrying, transportation to the work sites, stone step construction, building retaining walls and closing social trails. Come prepared for a rewarding and physical day of work, wearing long pants and sturdy closed-toe footwear. Don't forget water, a lunch and gear for the season's weather. Half days and custom schedules are always welcome! If you are interested in bringing out a group please contact us about possibilities.
To find us, hike up the Bluebell Road to the Royal Arch trailhead, follow the trail for the Royal Arch for about a 1/4 mile to the junction for the 1st & 2nd Flatiron trail. Follow this trail west to the clearly marked Third Flatiron Trail. Once on the Third Flatiron trail, follow it up through the Satellite Boulders. The worksites will be just beyond the boulders right before the East Bench & raptor trail closure.
Please feel free to email us with any questions at [email protected] Also, expect an email from one of us the days before the work day detailing any specifics. Please note, any volunteers under 18 years of age are required to have our waivers signed by a parent or guardian. We can send you PDF files ahead of time if you let us know.
Thanks and see you out there!
