Boulder and the University of Colorado were noted by the U.S. News and World Report for being an excellent college town for “winter enthusiasts.”
This title was given to the city for its location in the Front Range. The city of Boulder is very near a variety of ski resorts. The closest ski resort is Eldora Mountain Resort, which is about 30 minutes away.
This is certainly a factor for some CU students who love to ski and snowboard when it comes to selecting a university to attend. Other popular ski resorts in Colorado among CU students include not only Eldora but Loveland, Keystone, Berthoud Pass and Winter Park - to name a few.
Some students say it’s hard to balance classes with the desire to go skiing or snowboarding. Some CU students say they take “snow days” to head to the mountains and play - regardless of their class and obligations.
Other popular winter sports with CU students include ice climbing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing - among others.
Other schools near winter wonderlands that were included on the U.S. News and World Report list were Montana State University, Dartmouth, Sierra Nevada College and the University of Utah.
