The University of Colorado at Boulder will celebrate its annual homecoming with a parade on Friday, Oct. 21. The CU homecoming parade will take place this year on the Pearl Street Mall and starts at 7 p.m.
The parade was moved this year to the Pearl Street Mall from its former home in the University Hill district. The move upset some, but officials say the change in location was aimed at involving more of the Boulder community in the celebrations. Additionally, organizers wanted to take advantage of the fact that the Pearl Street Mall already is a pedestrian-only area. That will help so they won’t have to block off access to cars on the streets of the Hill.
This year’s homecoming parade theme is “Celebrating CU Through the Decades.” The plan this year is to combine the Homecoming Parade with the Pearl Street Stampede. The events will center around the Courthouse Plaza area on the Pearl Street Mall.
The slate of Friday events includes a pep rally and floats for the Homecoming Parade. The Golden Buffalo Marching Band will preform. The Parade will wind down at the west end of the mall near 10th and Pearl streets in the parking lot of the former Daily Camera newspaper. Additionally, the Buffoons, an a cappella group from CU, will perform.
