With every holiday season locals look forward to seeing the brightly lit star on the side of Flagstaff Mountain. The lights remain and important local tradition that help bring light during the darkest time of the year.
There’s a fundraising campaign now in its 11th year to help raise much needed funds to help raise money to maintain, upkeep and preserve the Flagstaff star. This year marks the 11th annual Flagstaff Star holiday card. Funding raising efforts also include a ceramic art tile and bottles of wine – both of which include the artistic image of the Flagstaff Star.
The cards are a great way to send a little piece if Boulder to the people you love during the holidays. The Flagstaff Star cards are available for purchase at a variety of local stores and locations, such as Boulder Chamber, Puddle Car Wash, Art Mart, Lucky's Market and Art Source International. The cards cost $12.95 for a box of 10.
The star is now 100% wind powered, and the lights are on from Nov. 19 until New Year’s Day.
Another great way to support the star is with a special ceramic art tile that features the image of the star, as seen on this year’s holiday card. The $18 tiles are available at the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, 2440 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO 80302; (303) 442-1044.
Last but not least, you can find bottles of wine for sale that include an image of the star at Harvest Wine and Spirits and Alfalfa's Cellar, Liquor Mart, Bailey's Wine & Spirits, Pettyjohn's, & Superior Liquor.
Boulder’s own Leanin’ Tree helped in the creation and production of the cards. The artist who made the image of the iconic star is Jason Emery, who has lived in Colorado since the mid-1970s.
There will be an exhibit opening by Jason Emery and an artist reception on Dec. 1 from 5-7pm at Mary Williams Fine Art, at 2116 Pearl Street in Boulder. All are welcome.
