This year marks the 29th Annual Polar Bear Plunge at the Boulder Reservoir.
This special event takes place every year on New Year’s Day. Essentially, hundreds of people head out to the cold winter waters of the Boulder Rez in the January temps and take a dip in the frigid waters.
Hosting the dive is Young Professionals Alzheimer's Association of Colorado. The money will help families and those affected by this disease. Money also will help to fund finding a cure for Alzheimer’s.
Last year about 900 people took part in the Polar Bear Plunge. They raised almost $30,000.
If you want to take part, it’s $25 for adults. The registration cost is $20 for people under 17 years old. You can register online at www.ypaac.org/polarplunge or by phone 303-813-1669.
You also can register onsite at the Boulder Rez on Jan. 1 starting at 10:30 a.m.
If you make your dip in the water, you get a certificate and a T-shirt. You also may be able to get your picture taken with the Young Professionals Alzheimer's Association of Colorado polar bear. There will be hot tubs there for afterward and beverages and snacks.
Of course if you prefer to stay warm and dry, you can volunteer to help out. Details: [email protected] or call 303-813-1669.
